Man killed in clashes between police, protesters in Gazipur

A man was killed during clashes between police and protesters in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, 45.
He used to work at a quilt-making shop in Channapara village, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
The deceased’s uncle, Kajal Mia, told this correspondent that Jahangir was at his workplace during the clash between police and students.
“Around 3:00pm, I received information that Jahangir was lying on the road. After that, some students rescued him and took him to Mauna Chaurasta for treatment. Later, he died on the way to the hospital,” said Kajal.
He claimed that Jahangir died of gunshot wounds.
Confirming the death, Akbar Ali Khan, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said they did not know how the man was killed.
Sheikh Mahbub Morshed, officer-in-charge of Mauna Highway Police Station, told The Daily Star that the protesters have confined the police station at this moment. Police cars were burnt. “I’m in trouble, I’ll talk to you later,” he added.
